The Rise of the LBS

people have a go- to outfit. This outfit was traditionally the Little Black Dress (LBD). When all else failed this would be the outfit a woman could always rely on, whatever the function. Nowadays dresses are often seen as too formal for some occasions, such as a meal with friends, leaving the question, what is today’s go to outfit? Everywhere, people of most ages own a black skirt; they come in many different shapes and sizes but most are of the jersey variety. Whether it is from Topshop, H&M, New Look or River Island, these skirts are fast becoming an essential item for all.
So has the Little Black Dress being replaced by the Little Black Skirt? There will, of course, always be a place for the Little Black Dress, perhaps these days reserved for more formal occasions, but it remains, and probably always will remain, a staple for many women. The Little Black Skirt has, however, increased in popularity due to its simplicity and ease to pair with anything. When every other outfit has been tried on from the wardrobe, the fail safe option is nearly always the Little Black Skirt. In the day it can be worn with dolly shoes or boots and almost any top, long sleeved in winter and vest top in summer. For night, simply putting on a pair of heels, a low cut top and a belt completes the outfit.
So the Little Black Skirt, whether worn with heels or flats, dressed up or down, night or day can always save any fashion dilemma. It can also safely be said that the Little Black Dress will never be totally side-lined by this new fashion essential.
