The Education Zone is going from strength to strength this year. We now have over 400 Course Reps elected (more than last year already!) and they are all working hard to represent their fellow students. We have delivered training to all Course Reps and the response so far has been phenomenal. They are all now well equipped to go out and promote themselves, find out issues and represent those to their department, faculty or even the University as a whole! Our first Academic Council takes place on Monday 1st of November and is compulsory for all representatives.
This year, we are providing all Course Reps with blue wristbands. If you have a problem or concern with your department, and you see someone on your course with a blue wristband, grab them and feel free to tell them what issues you have with your course! It’s their job to find out what’s happening within their department and to represent that to staff and the Union.
In other news, last month saw the first University Senate Committee Meeting of the year. HUU raised some pertinent questions concerning the University’s Strategic Plan, the Lord Browne Review and the Comprehensive Spending review. Fortunately, the University of Hull is seemingly in a fairly comfortable position regarding cuts and funding, however, HUU will be in continuous consultation regarding any future changes to the University’s Strategic Plan.
If you wish to get involved in HUU’s campaign against rising fees and cuts, then we are campaigning in Hull City Centre on the 3rd of November and in London on the 10th. For more details, please visit www.hullstudent.com
We are also concentrating heavily this year on a fairly large campaign central to the library. The ideas cafe with free popcorn and candy floss will form a large part of our research as well as NSS data, feedback from Academic Council and various surveys. We are hoping to create a big video campaign that will raise awareness of Library issues and develop a vision for the future of the library and where it can improve.
I am Matthew Barrow and I will march on 10.11.10 for a better University of Hull.
