Review: Let The Right One In

Based on the novel of the same name, ‘Let The Right One In’ is a vampire film with integrity. It follows Oskar, a twelve year old boy, the victim of severe bullying at school who befriends Eli, a vampire. To give any more away about the plot would be to ruin the twists and surprises that make the film great.

Despite technically being a horror film, and it has some truly gory moments, it is a story about friendship and loyalty, as well as being the best anti-bullying advert you could ever hope to see. The rural Swedish setting makes for some beautiful, harrowing shots, but what really sets the film apart from its genre is the inspired casting of its two young stars. They are odd, interesting, gifted performers, without a hint of the stage-school-starlet usually found in child actors. The whole film rests on their shoulders and they carry the challenge with amazing maturity.
