Review: Kick Ass

As ‘super hero’ movies go, Kick-Ass is a true original. Based on the comic books by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr, the story follows Dave Lizewski – a high school nobody and comic book fanatic who one day decides that he will become a superhero.

However, as one might expect, the average nerdy teenager doesn’t stand up too well against muggers and vandals and on his first outing as ‘Kick-Ass’ Dave is beaten up, stabbed, then hit by a car (don’t worry, he gets better with Hollywood speediness). Soon after, we learn that Kick-Ass is not alone in the world of the masked vigilante and we are introduced to ‘Hit Girl’ and ‘Big Daddy’ (hilariously brought to life by Nicholas Cage). The film’s only disappointment was the inevitable change to the plot which detracted from the humour of Millar’s comic but I would definitely recommend the Kick-Ass movie to everyone.
