Timeless Dating

On a chilly Boxing Day, on some obscure Sky channel, a happy viewer stumbles across nineties classic Clueless, and it all feels very familiar. Not because they’ve seen it before and not because it has Turk from Scrubs in a brace, but because it has taken them this long to notice that it’s based (very loosely) on Jane Austen’s Emma. So is the Beverly Hills socialite dating scene really all that different to that of nineteenth century rural Britain? Well, both environments allow you to wear ridiculous outfits. However, only one lets you buy them from Gucci. Both are filled with self-obsessed girls whose main aim is to bag a rich bloke, but only one guarantees said bloke will be a competent horse rider. Yes, both have their upsides but gun to my head I’d definitely take Emma’s place in Highbury. At least that way I wouldn’t end up dating my step-brother – surely no one is that clueless!
